How Long Does It Really Take to Get an Ex Back?

By Guide Bodou · Traditional African spiritual healer · 27 years of practice

It is one of the first questions people ask me, and it is a fair one. When your heart is in pain, you want a date to hold on to. But if someone hands you a tidy number,“three weeks”, “twenty-one days”, be careful. The honest answer is slower and gentler than that, and it depends far more on your situation than on any calendar.

Why there is no single answer

To get an ex back is not like ordering something and waiting for it to arrive. You are dealing with a living bond between two people, and no two bonds break in the same way. One couple parted after a single argument neither of them meant. Another drifted apart slowly over two years. A third was pulled apart by someone else. These are not the same wound, so they do not heal in the same time.

Anyone who promises you a fixed timeframe is either guessing or telling you what you want to hear. I will not do that. I would rather tell you the truth and let you decide with your eyes open.

What the timing really depends on

When I look at a situation, there are a few things I weigh before I say anything about time. They matter far more than how many days have passed:

If you have been keeping your distance and wondering whether that silence is helping or hurting, my piece on whether the no-contact rule works may be worth reading alongside this one.

Weeks for some, months for others

With all that said, I understand you still want some honest sense of scale. For some people, where the break was recent and the feeling is still strong, things begin to shift in a matter of weeks, a message, a softening, a reason to talk again. For others, where the hurt runs deep or time has hardened it, the work unfolds over several months, in small steps you only notice looking back.

Please read those as honest ranges, not promises. I have seen bonds turn that I thought were slow, and I have seen others that never moved. I tell each person what I truly see in their situation, not what fits a neat story.

The ones who rush me are usually the ones who get hurt again. Love does not answer to a stopwatch. It answers to patience, to truth, and to the right work done at the right moment.

Why rushing it backfires

Here is something I have watched for twenty-seven years: pressure pushes people away. When you chase, beg, send ten messages, or demand an answer, you are not pulling your ex closer, you are giving them a reason to pull back. The heart closes under pressure the way a hand closes when you grab at it.

This is why I ask people to slow down, even when every part of them wants to run. The path that feels slow is often the one that actually works. If you want to understand what genuinely moves a broken bond rather than forcing it, I have written about how to bring back a lost love in more depth there.

When nothing seems to move

Sometimes a person does everything with care and patience, and still nothing shifts. The silence holds. This usually means there is a deeper block, something holding the bond shut that gentleness alone cannot reach. It may be an old resentment that was never spoken, the weight of a third person, or simply a door that has closed harder than it looks from the outside.

This is the point where the traditional work I do can act, on what is holding the bond closed, so that the feeling that was buried has room to move again. It is not a trick and it is not instant. It is patient work, and it does not override anyone’s free will. And I will be honest with you about one thing: if I look at your situation and see that the bond cannot be turned, I will tell you so plainly. I would rather lose a client than take money for a door that will not open. You can read more about how I work with love here.

Wondering if your situation can still turn?

Tell me what happened, in a few words. I will look at your situation and tell you honestly whether I can help.

Those who lead

From the Kings of centuries past to the Presidents of today, every person of great renown, power or wealth has worked with a spiritual advisor, drawing on spiritual resources to gain vision and follow the right path, whatever they were seeking. This is why the most powerful figures in the world still keep a Guide by their side.
