Signs You Haven't Met the Right Person Yet, and Why That's Okay
If you are tired of waiting, tired of dating, tired of watching everyone else pair off while your turn keeps not arriving, I want to tell you something gently and honestly. Not having met the right person yet is not proof that you never will.
In 27 years, people come to me carrying the same quiet fear: maybe love simply is not written for me. They have counted the years, the failed matches, the near-misses. And most of the time, when I look at their situation, I do not see someone broken or unlovable. I see someone whose moment has not arrived, and, sometimes, someone with something in the way that can be cleared. Learning to tell those two apart changes everything.
Why "not yet" is not the same as "never"
Waiting feels like failing. It is not. A life does not unfold on a schedule, and love least of all. I have watched people meet their person at twenty-two and at fifty-eight, and the ones who waited longer were not being punished, they were often becoming the person the right partner would recognise. The fact that it has not happened yet is a statement about time, not about your worth. Hold that distinction, because despair is the only thing that can make waiting turn into a wall.
The right person arriving late is not the same as the right person never arriving. Most of the sorrow I meet is people mistaking one for the other.
Signs it is simply "not yet"
There are quiet signs that your season has not turned, and none of them mean anything is wrong with you:
- You are still healing. A part of you is not free yet, an old love, an old wound. Love tends to wait until there is room for it.
- Your life is still forming. A move, a career, a change of city, sometimes the timing is protecting you from meeting the right person in the wrong chapter.
- The people you meet are not wrong, just not yours. That is not failure; that is the ordinary sifting that comes before the meeting.
- You feel the wanting, not the panic. A calm longing is a good sign. It means your heart is open and simply early.
Signs something may be blocking you
But I would not be honest if I said waiting is always innocent. Sometimes it is not "not yet", sometimes something is genuinely standing in the way. I see it when the same painful pattern repeats no matter who the person is; when connections that begin warm go cold for no reason you can name; when doors seem to close the moment they open; when you feel, deep down, that you are somehow held back from the very thing you most want. This can come from an old attachment you have never truly released, from fear you carry without seeing it, or from a heaviness around your love life that is not of your making. The traditional work I inherited acts on exactly that, on what holds a situation in place, so that what is meant to move can finally move. What it cannot do is manufacture a person out of nothing or force a bond that life has not offered, and I will always tell you honestly which case is yours.
Preparing yourself so you recognise them
Whether your answer is "not yet" or "something is in the way", the same preparation serves you. The right person rarely arrives with a sign around their neck. They arrive as an ordinary morning, a conversation that goes a little longer than expected. If your heart is still tangled in the last disappointment, or braced for another one, you can miss them entirely. So do the quiet work: forgive where you can, close what is still open, and stop auditioning strangers for a role your fear wrote. Become someone at peace, and you will recognise peace when it walks toward you.
Trusting the timing without giving up
Trusting timing does not mean sitting in the dark doing nothing. It means living fully while you wait, and refusing to let the waiting convince you that you are less. If, alongside that, you sense a real blockage, a pattern too stubborn to be chance, that is worth looking at, gently and without fear. I have seen love arrive for people who had entirely stopped believing it would. Your turn not having come is not the end of your story. It may simply be the part before it.
Wondering if something is standing between you and love?
Tell me what your love life has felt like. I will look at your case honestly and tell you whether it is a matter of time, or whether there is something we can clear.
