Signs of Negative Energy or the Evil Eye — and What Cleansing Does
People rarely come to me saying “I have negative energy.” They come saying something quieter: everything I touch lately seems to turn to nothing, and I don't know why.
In the tradition I was raised in, we do not treat the idea of negative energy — or the evil eye — as superstition. We treat it as something real that can settle over a person, a home, or a family, often carried by the envy or ill will of someone close. But I am also the first to tell people not to blame every bad week on it. So here is an honest way to think about the signs.
What people actually notice first
- A run of blockages that defies explanation. Not one setback, but a pattern — money, work, love, all stalling at once, no matter what you do.
- A heaviness you carry into your own home. You feel watched, drained, or on edge in a place that should feel safe.
- Sudden change after an encounter. Things shifted after a particular visit, a gift, an argument, or the moment someone learned of your good fortune.
- Sleep and peace that will not come. A restlessness that no amount of tiredness settles.
Envy is quiet. It rarely announces itself — which is exactly why its weight can sit on a life for a long time before anyone names it.
When it is not that
Let me be honest, because honesty is the whole of my work: sometimes a hard season is just a hard season. Sometimes what looks like a curse is exhaustion, or grief, or a decision that needs making. A good practitioner tells you when there is nothing spiritual to treat — and I do. If your situation is one for a doctor, a counsellor or a lawyer, I will say so.
What a spiritual cleansing actually does
A spiritual cleansing is not theatre. In the tradition passed down in my family, it is careful work with natural elements, meant to lift what has settled on you — the ill will, the heaviness, the blockage — and to protect you from it returning. People describe the after-effect less as a miracle and more as a weight lifting: they sleep, they breathe, doors that were stuck begin to move again.
What it cannot do is promise you a perfect life, and I would distrust anyone who says otherwise. It clears what can be cleared, and protects what can be protected. The rest is yours to live.
How to know whether it is worth seeking
The simplest test is this: has the heaviness lasted too long, and started too suddenly, to be ordinary? If yes, it costs you nothing to describe it to someone who has spent a lifetime with these matters.
